Man hurled bottles and cans from Tesco shelves

The moment when a man rampaged through Tesco hurling drinks bottles and chucking items off shelves has been captured on CCTV.

Steven Clegg, 38, was seen throwing the bottles and cans at the central Peterborough store on 7 February.

Police said they were trying to detain him because he was already banned from the store.

He retaliated by damaging the entry barrier, repeatedly punching security personnel in the head and lobbing items down the aisles.

He eventually gave up and put his arms out to be handcuffed.

Clegg, of no fixed address, admitted criminal damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and affray, and was jailed for a year at Cambridge Crown Court last week.

Cambridgeshire Police said: "No-one should be subjected to violence for simply trying to do their job."
