The man-made Greek forest that mirrors the Amazon

A food forest is a man-made sustainability project, combining many different plants and trees to mimic a natural ecosystem. The goal is for humans to play a functional role in adding to the natural world, instead of extracting resources that can't be replenished. Sheila Darmos and her team are a part of this centuries-old approach to agriculture, as they 'follow the Earth's lead' to maintain a food forest in southern Greece.

In History of Mother Earth: Gaia Uncovered, British historian Bettany Hughes explores how we can use human ingenuity to find solutions to the climate crisis.
