A man in his 30s sustained life-threatening injuries when a car hit a wall following a police pursuit in Birmingham, the West Midlands force has said.

The Honda Civic in which he was travelling crashed into vehicles and then into a wall on Lionel Street, at the junction with Newhall Street, at about 14:50 GMT on Sunday.

Police said the car had earlier been pursued after failing to stop for officers in Lozells. No-one else was in the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.

The force's professional standards department was informed, and is being referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as was normal procedure in such circumstances, police added.
