Barriers could be installed in town's high street

Barriers could be installed in the high street of a Surrey town in a bid to restrict motor vehicles' access to a stretch of road.
Surrey County Council has proposed installing barriers either side of Staines High Street, which would be locked between 09:30 and 17:30 GMT from Monday to Saturday and all day Sundays.
The barriers would be unlocked and opened during the rest of the time, when delivery vehicles would be permitted.
According to proposals, one barrier would be installed where the high street meets Thames Street and Clarence Street, with the other before the junction with Mustard Mill Road and South Street.
Emergency services and market traders would be unaffected by the barriers, which would be opened and closed by a parking enforcement officer.
A survey into the proposed changes closes on 7 April.
