Handwritten Dad's Army script up for sale
A handwritten script for the much-loved sitcom Dad's Army is due to be auctioned and could fetch up to £5,000.
The script, called 'Sgt - Save My Boy!' and written by the show's co-creator David Croft, was originally gifted to a student on work experience in the 1990s before being unearthed on Antiques Roadshow earlier this year.
It will be sold at Auctioneum in Bristol on December 31.
Andrew Stowe, auctioneer, said: "We have the original 'warts-and-all' manuscript, direct from David Croft's brain, put straight on the page. It's quite remarkable."
"Dad's Army is still so loved, and still regularly watched by millions of people – to have such an important part of its history is very special indeed," he added.
The 34-page manuscript comes with a separate letter by Mr Croft which says: "I can write better than this but in trying to keep up with my thoughts, legibility goes out of the window."
In the episode, the character Private Pike finds himself stranded on a mined beach while the tide rises in the fictional town of Walmington on Sea and needs to be rescued by the platoon.
Pike was played by the late Ian Lavender who trained as an actor at Bristol Old Vic school.
The lot is a part of Auctioneum's British Comedy, TV & Film Auction.
