Van driver arrested after crash with lorry

A man in his 20s has suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision on the A1.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway near Stibbington, Cambridgeshire, at about 07:20 GMT and involved a dark blue Vauxhall Vivaro and a HGV lorry, police said.

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s who was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in hospital.

A passenger in the van was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and e remains in a life-threatening condition. The lorry driver was uninjured.

National Highways said the road had been shut southbound between the A47 at Peterborough and the A605 near Alwalton following the crash.

Sgt Duncan Hall, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "We are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward."
