Regular wellbeing beach cleans after event success
Wellbeing beach cleans in Guernsey will become a regular thing following "the success of an initial gathering" at the end of 2024, bosses say.
The Healthcare Group, Guernsey Mind and the Clean Earth Trust held the first event in November.
Following its success, the organisations have planned another for Thursday.
The idea from Dr Laura Bell, from the Healthcare Group, described the event as "a green prescription".
'Sense of purpose'
She said: "Having a sense of purpose, enjoying the great outdoors, and working alongside others have all been shown to enhance mental health, happiness and overall wellbeing.
"Meeting at Grandes Rocques, everyone is welcome to join in – just be sure to dress appropriately, and the Clean Earth Trust will provide buckets and litter pickers."
The group will meet at 13:00 GMT with the beach clean expected to last for about an hour.
Organisers said mental health first aiders were available to offer support and advice if required but there was no obligation to chat.
They said: "These gatherings are set to become a regular fixture, offering an uplifting way to connect with others while contributing positively to the local environment."
A spokesperson for Guernsey Mind said the beach clean would be ideal for those "feeling anxious, managing depression, living with autism, finding it challenging to step outside, or simply for those keen to meet new friends".
