Arrest after knife reports put school in lockdown
A man has been arrested after reports of someone carrying a knife on the street put a nearby school into lockdown.
West Mercia Police said officers were called to Holmer Road, in Hereford, at 15:10 GMT on Tuesday, although no threats had been made to the public.
Holmer Academy said it lifted its lockdown just after 16:00.
The force said a 25-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article and remained in custody.
In a statement, the school said it was notified of the incident by police, and immediately activated its lockdown procedures, which saw all staff and students remain in the building.
As parents arrived to pick up their children, they were directed to the rear playground and the school gates were locked.
The school added support would be made for students, parents or staff if needed.
