Four arrested after serious assaults in Plymouth
Four men have been arrested after two people were seriously assaulted in Plymouth city centre.
The incident happened at about 04:25 BST on Old Town Street, outside Drake's Circus shopping centre, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
Two men, aged 20 and 18, both from Plymouth, were arrested on suspicion of assault ABH [actual bodily harm] and two counts of attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A 20-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of assault ABH and one count of attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm. A 20-year-old man, also from Plymouth, was arrested on suspicion of assault ABH.
One victim, in his 20s, was assaulted by a group of men following a verbal altercation. He was punched and struck in the face and sustained injuries.
A second man, in his 30s, who came to assist the victim, was also attacked by the group and kicked and stamped on around the head.
Both men were treated at the scene before being taken to they city's Derriford Hospital, with their injuries described as not life-changing or life-threatening.
All four of the men arrested have released on bail until March.
Officers investigating the incident have asked any witnesses or anyone who may have captured the incident on CCTV or mobile phones to contact them.
