Bull on the loose becomes honorary blue nose

A bull that was on the loose in Birmingham has become the mascot of a Birmingham City FC supporters group based in Norfolk, according to one of its members.

Speaking to Radio WM, Steve Walker, part of the 24-person fan club, said the bull was made an honorary blue nose and was "destined to become a Birmingham City Fan".

Liam the Bull, named after former Blues player Liam Daish, was caught by Birmingham City Council street cleaning staff in a disused Dunelm car park in Digbeth on 6 June.

While officials believed he may have escaped from an abattoir, the animal was not claimed and was rescued by Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk.

Three weeks on, BCFC Official Supporters Club, Norfolk Branch, claimed to have adopted Liam as their new mascot, with the bull continuing to live at the sanctuary.

Mr Walker told the BBC: "[The bull] was found at the bottom of the hill from St Andrews [Stadium] - so it was a no-brainer for me.

"He's the only animal member, but I mentioned it to the guys and he's gone from strength to strength.

"I can't thank Hillside Animal Sanctuary enough for rescuing him."

He added: "But to allow us to take him as a mascot and be part of Birmingham City - it's fantastic."
