An Armagh man accused of drugging and raping a woman has been remanded in custody.

Appearing at Lisburn Magistrates Court by video link on Saturday, 32-year-old Ryan Reid spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him, all alleged to have been committed on 26 December.

Mr Reid, from Railway Street in Armagh, faces charges of rape, sexual assault, administering a substance with intent to commit sexual assault and false imprisonment of a woman.

He is also charged with attempting to possess cocaine, possessing cannabis and other offences including driving while unfit, driving without a licence or insurance and permitting driving with neither a licence nor insurance.

A police officer told the court he believed he could connect Mr Reid to each of the charges.

District Judge Anne Marshall remanded Mr Reid into custody to appear again on New Year's Eve.
