Guernsey's fibre broadband rollout has passed a major milestone, with the 15,000th property added to the network, telecoms bosses say.

Sure, which is rolling out the network on behalf of the States, said 75% of premises on the island were now able to get fibre broadband.

Economic Development President Neil Inder said: "We are now nearing the point where every home in the island will have the option to switch to fibre, which will be a big achievement for Guernsey."

He also said the island was on target to complete the rollout by the end of 2025, adding that fibre connectivity was "essential to our competitiveness as a jurisdiction".

The States is providing £12.5m of the £37.5m cost of the rollout, which was due to focus on St Peter Port next, Sure said.

Richard Cartland, programme director at Sure, said fibre broadband was a "game-changer for residents and businesses".
