Beverley Minster Parish Hall's bell tower was removed after it was found to be unsafe

A bell tower in East Yorkshire has been removed for urgent repair work.

The Grade II listed tower on Beverley Minster Parish Hall was deemed unsafe in a report by surveyors.

The repairs, which are taking place while a retrospective planning application is reviewed, include the replacement of much of the timber.

Some parts of the tower were missing completely and some were loose.

The plans submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the changes would be made without altering the tower's appearance, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The parish hall is used by the minister and other community groups, and can host up to 100 people.

A previous version of this story stated that the bell tower had not yet been removed.
