Bid to name streets after city's fallen war heroes

A council is trying to track down the relatives of fallen war heroes after a proposal was made to name 18 new streets after them.
Lichfield District Council has suggested the streets at the 520-home development off Cricket Lane be named after 20 servicemen who died during the world wars.
They are commemorated in the Staffordshire city's Garden of Remembrance but the authority said it wanted to get their descendants' approval to use their names on the estate, which received planning permission last year.
Councillor Rob Strachan said: "We feel it is fitting to honour the families who sacrificed during both world wars by naming new streets after their loved ones who paid the ultimate price."
The names of those who died in World War One are: A.W. Banton, T.A. Derry, T. Emery, A.R. Foster, E.E. Grant, E.H. Irwin, W. Jackman, G.W.J Lamb, A.J Macpherson, J.C.J Nicholls, J.G Payne, R. Ridgway, F. Sedgwick and W.H. Thorneloe.
Those who died in World War Two are: G.W. Asbridge, J. Brace, E.W. Cook, S. Humphries, J.A. Payne and A. Sedgwick.
Mr Strachan said any descendants of the servicemen who would rather their names were not used should get in touch with the authority.
The proposed names for the 18 new streets are:
- Asbridge Way
- Emery Crescent
- Grant Drive
- Sedgwick Street
- Derry Road
- Foster Close
- Cook Lane
- Jakeman Drive
- Irwin Avenue
- Humphries Lane
- Brace Road
- Lamb Close
- Macpherson Drive
- Banton Croft
- Nicholls Avenue
- Payne Close
- Thorneloe Way
- Ridgway Croft
