Islanders have been reminded to "seek support" if needed over Christmas

Islanders are being urged to seek mental health support if needed over the Christmas period.

The Listening Lounge supports people aged 18 and over with mental health issues.

It said people could access support at any time online via the digital mental health support service TogetherAll.

Andy Weir, director of Mental Health Services and Adult Social Care, said people would be supported at all times.

He said: "Providing early mental health support is vital for people experiencing mental health difficulties.

"We know that Christmas time can be very difficult for some people - if you are struggling this Christmas, please seek support."

The Listening Lounge said top tips to support your mental health during Christmas included:

  • Acknowledge your feelings, accept them to help yourself process your emotions and be compassionate with yourself
  • Contact a friend, family member or support line - including the Listening Lounge on 01534 866793 or Samaritans on 116 123
  • Limit your use of social media and connect with nature instead
  • Practice self-care by doing mindfulness, exercise or something you enjoy
  • Set small goals to build a sense of achievement and to help structure your day

The service said its opening hours would remain 10:00 to 20:00 GMT Monday to Saturday except on Christmas Eve when it will be open 10:00 to 18:00.

The service will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
