A man has died after being pulled from a river in Norwich.

Norfolk Police said it was called at 04:26 GMT on Saturday to the River Wensum near the Novi Sad Friendship Bridge, close to the Carrow Road stadium, to reports a man had entered the water.

The man in his 40s was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but died a short time later.

The force said his death was being treated as unexplained.

It said his next of kin had been informed.

Officers are keen to establish how the man entered the water and have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch.

He has been described as "an Asian man", of slim build and is about 5ft 9in (175cm) tall.

He is said to have been wearing a black North Face puffer jacket, black trousers and a distinctive wide brimmed hat and was carrying a large black holdall.
