A man has been jailed after a stabbing in Birmingham that left a man with serious injuries which led to doctors putting him in a coma.

Reasha Geddes, from Edgbaston, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a blade at an earlier hearing.

The 34-year-old was jailed for eight years and three months in a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

After he was sentenced, West Midlands Police said Geddes fled the scene after the attack in Dudley Road as his victim collapsed, in the early hours of 24 August.

He had swung at the man with a knife, slashing his neck, the force added.

Paramedics in a passing ambulance treated the man before he was taken to hospital and placed in an induced coma.

CCTV footage showed Geddes returning home at about 01:40 BST, 15 minutes after the attack.

Searches led officers to find clothes he had been wearing that were thrown away as he fled.

After the sentencing hearing on 10 January, police said the victim was continuing to recover from his injuries.
