Medal marks 50 years of 'tireless' voluntary work

A woman who has volunteered her time for charitable causes for more than 50 years has been presented with the British Empire Medal (BEM).

Marguerite Talmage was awarded the BEM in the 2024 King's Birthday Honours List for her services to the community in Guernsey.

She was presented with her medal by the Lieutenant-Governor in a ceremony at Government House on Thursday.

Lt Gen Richard Cripwell said: "Mrs Talmage's vision and resourcefulness have enriched the lives of countless islanders."

During her five decades of voluntary service Mrs Talmage raised £2m for the new site of charity Grow.

She also founded a therapy dogs charity in 2018 and helped St Peter's parish win six gold medals in floral competitions.

Lt Gen Cripwell said: "I was delighted to present Mrs Talmage with the British Empire Medal on behalf of His Majesty The King, in recognition of her tireless work both in her parish and more broadly across Guernsey's third sector."
