A former Sussex Police investigator has pleaded guilty after being charged with misconduct in a public office over claims he started a relationship with a vulnerable woman he met during an investigation.

David Gamlin, 58, pleaded guilty to a charge of "holder of a public office wilfully neglected to perform duty/wilfully misconducted himself" at Southwark Crown Court on Monday.

Gamlin had faced an accusation that he contacted and engaged in a sexual relationship with the woman between June and September 2021, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The former investigator, of no fixed address, will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 6 October.

The IOPC said its investigation in August 2022 was triggered by a mandatory referral from Sussex Police.

Gamlin, who was based at Worthing CID, left Sussex Police in March 2023, they said.
