Residents moved as crews tackle garage fire
Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a garage in Plymouth, with some nearby residents evacuated from their homes.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to the fire on Belmont Street at about 09:40 GMT.
Firefighters said they were working to contain the fire and residents had been advised to keep their doors and windows shut as a precaution. No-one was inside the garage at the time.
Police said the Highways Agency was on the scene, dealing with a mixture of oil and water that was currently blocking a section of nearby Kings Street.
A BBC reporter at the scene said crews had installed containment lines to stop oil from going down the drain.
Sgt Steve Dykes said residents close to the scene had been evacuated from their properties as a precaution while work was ongoing.
He said: "There's no risk, we've had a joint emergency meeting and there's no threat to other properties.
"People hopefully can come back to their properties within an hour.
"I just want to thank everybody for their cooperation, the local community has been good."
