Nicholas Ford was jailed for 13 years for the repeated rape and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl

A "dangerous predator" who repeatedly raped and assaulted a child has been jailed for 13 years.

Nicholas Ford, 44, formerly of Corby, Northamptonshire, began targeting the girl when she was 12 years old, assaulting her several times over the course of a two-year period, police said.

The abuse came to light when the victim, aged 18, confided in her partner, who supported her in reporting the offences to the police.

Ford had denied multiple counts of rape and sexual assault but was unanimously convicted following a five-day trial at Northampton Crown Court in March.

He was sentenced at the same court on Tuesday.

Det Con Ivan Bentley, of Northamptonshire Police, said: "Nicholas Ford is a dangerous predator and because of this woman's bravery, he is now behind bars and unable to hurt anyone else.

"She should be very proud of the courage she has shown - it is truly commendable.

"I hope this case demonstrates how seriously Northamptonshire Police take child sex offences."
