Emergency call outs and extra work for contractors meant this year's Christmas lights in town cost an extra £3,000.

Jax Robin, trustee of the St Peter Port Christmas Lights, said it had been a "very tough year" for the Guernsey charity.

The issues have been put down to a combination of things including bad weather and outages.

Mrs Robin said it was all things that "really and truly couldn't have been anticipated".

She said swapping to new contractors meant they "went in blind" this year.

"Secondly, of course we've had the usual bad weather, which seems to get worse and worse each December it seems," said Mrs Robin.

Repairs needed for 2025

She said this year had seen less money than usual come in from fundraising.

Mr Robin said: "We were lucky, we did have some money that had come in late last December and early into the New Year that helped."

It is expected there will be £12,000 worth of repairs to do before next year's switch on.

Mrs Robin said the charity had received extra donations in light of the issues they have had this year.

She said: "Hopefully there'll be a lot less issues for 2025 if a lot of the repairs are done."
