Tributes have been paid to a Humberside Police officer who died in a road accident while travelling home from her shift.

Det Con Karen Smith died at the scene of the crash involving her motorbike and a car on the A1033 at the junction with Thorn Road near the village of Thorngumbald on Wednesday.

Det Con Smith had served the community for 16 years.

Lee Sims, the Humberside Police Federation's chairman, described her death as "devastating" and said she was a "truly outstanding detective".

He added: "Karen was a well-liked and popular colleague and was recognised by all who knew and worked with her as being tremendously hard working and dedicated.

"She showed an incredible level of compassion for victims of crime, and tirelessly pursued justice for them."

The police federation said it is offering support to her family, friends, and colleagues.
