Trio jailed for forging £4m will of ex-head teacher
A woman has been jailed for forging the £4m will of her former head teacher.
In 2021 Leigh Voysey claimed to have been made the sole beneficiary in the will of Maureen Renny in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire.
After Ms Renny passed away, her family suspected it was a forgery and reported the matter to police.
In October Voysey, 46, of Standon Road in Little Hadham pleaded guilty to fraud and forgery, while two others admitted to forgery. They were jailed at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday.
Voysey had been a pupil at the Barn School, which was run by Ms Renny, and left over 30 years ago.
Hertfordshire Police said she "befriended" Ms Renny on one occasion before she died and claimed to have been named in her will.
Two of her friends "verified" and witnessed the will.
"Voysey saw an opportunity to wrongfully make a claim to ownership of the estate," said Det Con Sian Beames, from Hertfordshire Constabulary's Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit.
She said the case was "extremely complex and long running".
"The family, with help from our detectives, was able to prove that this was an opportunistic attempt to steal the family's inheritance and keep the proceeds for herself and her accomplices.
"The victims who were the true beneficiaries of the estate had been further subject to a lengthy civil trial costing thousands.
"The impact on them has been huge in terms of mental, physical and emotional distress," she added.
