Council urged to approve plan for new student flats

Plans to turn a brownfield site into a mixed-use student accommodation and office complex have taken a step closer.

Officers at Bristol City Council recommended the plan for the site in St Philips go ahead when it is considered by members of the development control committee on Wednesday.

If approved, the complex will feature a telecoms hub, 60,000 sq ft (5,574 sq m) of flexible employment space and 549 professionally managed student homes with a gym and social/study spaces.

A new community centre will also be built as part of the scheme proposed by property developer Dominus.

The plans have been designed by the Bristol team at architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.

The site sits opposite the Dings residential area and is identified in the Old Market Quarter Neighbourhood Plan for mixed-use regeneration.

It is also close to the new University of Bristol's Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, where an estimated 4,600 students will study after its planned opening in 2026.
