Investment to fix flooding at Goole station subway
Network Rail is investing £2.2m to help address "long-standing" issues with flooding of the subway at Goole station.
The project involves removing the pump and drainage system at the level crossing and installing new equipment at both sides of Boothferry Road.
This would provide safer, more practical access to allow staff to more easily maintain the system in the event of flooding, the company said.
Work is due to start in mid-February, with an expected completion date of July.
A spokesperson for the firm said only one subway would be closed at a time to minimise disruption and ensure pedestrians can still access the station and nearby shops.
Both platforms would remain open and accessible throughout and most of the work would be carried out between 07:00 and 17:00 GMT on weekdays.
Some temporary road closures would also be in place, they added.
Matt Shelton, Network Rail route engineer, said: "We're aware that flooding at Goole subway has long been a concern for residents and rail passengers.
"We recognise the importance of this issue and, while this work will not completely resolve the problem, it will help alleviate the disruption caused by flooding.
"We would like to thank all who use the subway or live nearby for their patience and understanding while we carry out the improvements."
