Parts of M2 closed following collision

National Highways said parts of the M2 in Kent were closed on Sunday following a traffic collision.

It warned drivers the motorway was shut eastbound between junction five, near Sittingbourne, and junction six, near Faversham, in an update published just after 18:00 GMT on X.

Kent Police officers were in attendance, according to National Highways.

Traffic was also stopped on the westbound carriageway to allow an air ambulance to attend the scene safely, it added.

Anthony Nwabudike told the BBC he had been stuck in the traffic for two hours.

He said it was "very cold" and "difficult to sit here waiting endlessly".

National Highways advised road users to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs.

It said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

"Plan ahead, you may wish to reroute or even delay your journey."
