A "severe fire" has broken out at a primary school, as residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors shut.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to St Michael's Primary School in Stoke Gifford, near Bristol, at 21:25 GMT.

About 40 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze.

The authority's spokesperson said: "We're at the scene of a severe fire and we would encourage people to stay away from the area and to keep doors and windows shut."
