Food for vulnerable families stolen, charity says

Thieves have stolen a van packed with food ready to be handed out to vulnerable families, the charity which runs the project said.

The Sheppey Support Bus was taken from the grounds of Holy Trinity Church in Sheerness in Kent in the early hours of Thursday, volunteers said.

Brian Spoor, from the charity, said the Mercedes Sprinter van was "full and ready to be taken out".

Phil Greig, who runs the service, said it would cease "for the foreseeable future".

He said he had emailed everyone who was expecting a delivery.

The charity van is used to deliver food and was about to expand its services to Eastchurch, Leysdown, Minster, Rushenden and areas of Sheerness.

Mr Greig added: "I am very sorry for the news. Here's hoping for a better 2025."

Kent Police said it was investigating a report of the theft and urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
