Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of robbery, police have said

A 14-year-old boy is believed to have to have suffered a cardiac arrest after one of his friends was robbed in Manchester city centre, police have said.

The boy collapsed on Market Street shortly before 21:00 GMT on Sunday and was taken to hospital in a critical condition, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said, after seven males stole a designer jacket from one of his friends.

The force previously said the boy who collapsed had been the victim of the robbery.

A spokesperson said the teenager's condition was no longer thought to be life-threatening.

'Horrific ordeal'

An 18-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of robbery has now been released on bail pending further inquiries, GMP said.

Another male, aged 17, has been arrested on suspicion of the same offence and remains in custody for questioning.

Supt Nicola Williams said: "Our officers are still investigating the full circumstances of this shocking incident, and we remain in contact with all those involved to offer our full support.

"Following this incident, a young teenager was left in hospital and all of our thoughts are with him as he continues to recover from this horrific ordeal.

"We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would urge anyone with any information to please get in touch."
