Driver, 80, jailed for causing biker's crash death
An 80-year-old man who caused the death of a motorcyclist by driving carelessly has been jailed.
Aaron Smith, 25, died after his motorbike was struck by a Toyota Yaris being driven by Raymond Dagnall on Park Road, Worsbrough, in November last year.
At a hearing at Barnsley Magistrates' Court last month, Dagnall pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.
On Thursday at Sheffield Crown Court, Dagnall, of Harvest Close, Barnsley, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and banned from driving for seven years and five months.
The court had previously heard that Dagnall had no previous convictions and had immediately surrendered his licence after the collision.
In a statement released after Mr Smith's death, his family said their "caring and thoughtful" son had made them "the proudest parents in the world".
