A woman was killed in a crash on Sunday on the A1 in Northumberland

A motorcyclist has been killed in a collision between a car and two motorbikes, police have said.

The woman in her 50s was declared dead at the scene on the A1 near South Charlton in Northumberland at about 13:50 BST on Sunday, Northumbria Police said.

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The force said its thoughts were with the woman's family and loved ones.

A spokeswoman said it was believed a silver Volvo car had been crossing the northbound carriageway near the junction with the B6347 when it was in collision with two Honda motorcycles.

A second motorbike rider, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment and had since been discharged, the force said.

Insp Steven Clare said the force were seeking witnesses and were keen to hear from anyone who may have recorded dashcam footage or CCTV of the crash.
