Man who slashed ex's ankles with glass jailed

A detective has described a man given a seven-year jail term after slashing the back of an ex-partner's ankles with a broken glass as "incredibly dangerous".
David Ziga, 37, of Sewell Road, Bradford, had been arrested in Peterborough in August with the woman's blood on his hands, police said.
Det Con Katie Orme said Ziga's victim had been left with "life-changing injuries".
Ziga was handed the sentence in a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on 14 February, after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent, a court official said.
'Severing'
Cambridgeshire Police said Ziga had spent seven months in prison on remand, prior to the attack, following allegations of domestic abuse.
He had been released after charges were dropped.
In a statement, the force said Ziga had threatened to put his ex-partner "in a wheelchair" because she had "put him in prison".
It added: "He had let himself into the flat before dragging the victim from her bedroom and repeatedly punching her.
"He then broke a glass to use as a weapon and slashed the back of her ankles, severing nerves and tendons and causing her to lose a significant amount of blood."
'Quick thinking'
Det Con Orme said: "Ziga is an incredibly dangerous individual who has left her with life-changing injuries, and he will now be spending a significant amount of time in prison."
Police said the woman had called the emergency services and said a group of masked men had attacked her in her home.
But they said the call was a "ploy".
Det Con Orme added: "The victim feared for her life and knew that the only way to get Ziga out of her home so she could call for help was to tell him she would say a group of men had raided her home and attacked her.
"This was quick thinking on her part – I would like to thank her for her bravery in co-operating with the investigation."
