Hundreds of people have joined the search for a soldier who went missing from an army base.

Alex, 30, a British Army sergeant, was last seen leaving the camp in Tidworth, Wiltshire, at about 12:00 BST on Sunday.

Wiltshire Police has released CCTV images of Alex walking through the Tidworth branch of Tesco an hour before he went missing.

The force described him as 5ft 7ins (1.7m) tall, athletic, with mousy brown hair and a beard. He was thought to be wearing a light coloured sweatshirt and black/grey trousers when he went missing.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said it was "very concerned" for Alex's welfare.

Sgt Gareth Brooks said: "Alex, we need to know that you are safe.

"I'm here to listen and I can give you the time you need to talk things through.

"There are many people who care about you and they need to know that you are OK."
