Remembrance service for 6,000 lost trawlermen
A service to commemorate Hull's lost trawlermen will be held on Sunday 26 January.
The tribute will take place at St John the Baptist church, known as the fisherman's church, at 12:00 GMT.
This year's service also marks the 70th anniversary of the loss of the trawlers Lorella and Roderigo and their 40 crewmen.
It is estimated that over 6,000 trawlermen have been lost from the port city of Hull.
Lost Trawlermen's Day is organised by St Andrew's Dock Fishing Heritage Group (STAND) and a service is held on the last Sunday in January every year.
During the service the bell recovered from the wreck of the Gaul trawler will sound to mark the beginning of a two minute silence. Thirty six fishermen died when the Gaul sank off Norway in 1974.
The City of Hull Band will perform Anchor for the Soul and children from Chiltern Primary School choir will perform I, the Lord of Sea and Sky.
Ruth Creasey, the chair of STAND, said Hull must never forget "the dedication, courage and ultimate sacrifice of over 6000 men".
She added: "Their memory will live on in the hearts and minds of families, friends and the wider community."
