Man bailed as inquiries continue into woman's death
A man arrested following the death of a woman in Leicester has been released on bail.
Leicestershire Police was called to St Austell Road by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) at 03:40 GMT on Sunday after the woman was pronounced dead.
Police said on Monday that a 29-year-old man and 37-year-old woman had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The man was then bailed while tests were carried out, while the woman has been released "with no further action".
Due to prior contact, the force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over the case.
Det Insp Mark Parish, who is currently leading the investigation, said: "A woman was sadly found dead inside an address in St Austell Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.
"It is currently unclear exactly how the woman died, but officers are working to understand exactly what has occurred and determine if someone was responsible for her death.
"Following the post-mortem examination, it is still not clear how the woman has died, so further tests will now be needed.
"The arrested man has been released on bail while these tests are completed and detectives continue to carry out other inquiries.
"I would continue to ask that people don't speculate about what may have occurred – we are continuing to work to understand exactly what has happened and will provide an update when we are able to."
An IOPC spokesperson added: "We can confirm we have received a referral from Leicestershire Police in relation to this matter, and we will now carry out an assessment to decide what further action is required by us."
