House and cars set alight in suspected arson

A fire at a house which also destroyed two cars is being treated as suspected arson, police have said.

Emergency crews were called to a property in Beechfield, Newton Aycliffe, at about 22:50 GMT on Monday.

The North East Ambulance Service said one patient was treated at the scene but refused to be taken into hospital.

Durham Police has urged anyone with information or CCTV footage to get in touch.

A brick-built bungalow with three small ornamental shrubs in a gravel garden in front has two large pieces of chipboard covering blackened, burnt-out windows.
The fire happened in Beechfield late on Monday evening

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and crews left at 00:52, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said.
