A young biker says he has been left "barely able to move" following a collision with a deer.

Jack Whincup, from Hull, was returning from the North York Moors on Tuesday at about 19:30 GMT on his Honda when the crash happened on the B1248 near Wetwang.

He suffered a shattered shoulder blade, broken collarbone and "road rash" on his forearm and knuckle.

Mr Whincup said he was awaiting surgery at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The 18-year-old said: "I was travelling at the speed limit of 70mph and had my high beams on when suddenly, out of nowhere, there were two black figures, which turned out to be deer. A third one appeared, which I hit.

"I was thrown off my bike and have no idea what happened after that, as I was taken away in an ambulance."

Mr Whincup said he was unsure what happened to the deer.

"I will have to spend money fixing my bike up," he added.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: "Considering that animals can appear on the road at any given moment, the main advice we can give is to watch out for the road sign for deer, which is shown in areas where the likelihood is higher.

"If someone is involved in a collision with a deer, which becomes injured or a danger to other road users, it should be reported it to us."
