Two hurt as pedestrians driven at in city centre
Two people were injured when a car was driven at pedestrians in Birmingham city centre on New Year's Day, prompting a police appeal for witnesses.
The West Midlands force said it was believed that up to 15 men were involved in a violent dispute in the middle of Bordesley Street when a light grey car was driven at them at about 23:25 GMT.
Two women aged 20, who were not involved in the dispute and were waiting to get a taxi at the Trent Street corner of the road, were struck.
They had serious leg injuries and were still in hospital on Friday.
Police said they believed the events may have been caused by a dispute between two men.
Det Ch Insp Jim Mahon said it was also thought another man who may have been injured left the scene.
He stated: "This was an appalling attack where a car has been used as a weapon and two women who were not involved in any way have been seriously injured as a result."
This was "incredibly reckless and indiscriminate", he added.
The vehicle was driven away at speed after the women were struck, the force said.
Nobody has been arrested and police have been reviewing CCTV and carrying out other inquiries.
As part of its appeal for witnesses and information on those involved, the force issued a plea for dashcam footage.
The car involved would have "suffered damage to the front", police said.
