A one-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a vehicle at a campsite, an inquest has heard.

Mabel Elizabeth Baldini died in hospital on Monday after the incident in the village of Betws Garmon near Caernarfon in Gwynedd.

She was airlifted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital after emergency services were called to the family-run Bryn Gloch campsite in the Eryri National Park.

Formally opening the inquest into the girl's death, the senior coroner for North Wales West, Kate Robertson, said the cause of death was given as a severe head injury.

She extended her sympathies to the child's family and friends.

North Wales Police said a 999 call was made at about 10:20 BST on Monday, with a Wales Air Ambulance and emergency medical team dispatched to the scene.

The coroner said the girl, from Winsford in Cheshire, died shortly after arriving at hospital on Monday.

The inquest was adjourned while inquiries continue.
