People in Wolverhampton are being encouraged to put their trainers on and raise money for local charities.

The annual Best Foot Forward challenge, organised by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton, returns on 28 June at WV Active Aldersley from 08:00 BST to 20:00 BST.

All funds from the event will be donated to Wolverhampton MS Therapy Centre, Central Youth Theatre and the Rotary Charitable Trust. For every person who takes part in the event, £1 will be "unlocked" from a fund created by 40 sponsors.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed said the "unique event" gave the opportunity for people to exercise at their own pace while "completing a challenge that will help others."

"The essential difference between Best Foot Forward and a typical sponsored walk or run is that, for the latter, entrants are required to sign up personal sponsors and then collect and pay over the sponsorship monies.

"For this event, there is no obligation to seek personal sponsorship – all you need to do is take part, because the charity funding comes from elsewhere," he said.

Participants can spend as long as they choose at the event and return as often as they want during the course of the day, with a personal chip keeping tally of how many laps have been covered.
