Commemorative coins fetch £4,000 at auction
Charterhouse AuctioneersA large number of commemorative coins, including Lord of the Rings, London 2012 Olympic Games and Queen Elizabeth II sets, has been sold at auction.
The privately-owned collection from Horsham, West Sussex, fetched just over £4,000 in the sale at Charterhouse Auctioneers, Dorset, on Thursday.
The collection, which had been expected to sell for £3,000, included a variety of silver and cupro-nickel coins.
Auctioneer Richard Bromell described coins as "a wonderful thing to accumulate".
He said: "Everyone collects something - it might not be commemorative coins, but most people have a passion for something.
"We are all custodians of our collection, which we enjoy for as long as we can before passing it on."
