Europe's biggest EV charging centre plan revealed
Europe’s largest concentration of super-fast electric vehicle charging spaces looks set to be built at a major shopping centre.
A planning application for the redevelopment of the former petrol station close to the Marks & Spencer store at the one of the main entrances to Trafford Centre has been submitted to Trafford’s planning team.
The development would deliver a new Starbucks Drive Thru, an ultra-rapid charging hub, a super-charger lounge, car showroom and a new digital advertising screen with plants growing up a vertical "living wall".
Matthew Anderson, development director at Trafford Centre managers Pradera Lateral, said the proposals would deliver a further 47 250kW ultra-rapid chargers.
That would take the total at the centre to 65, which could make it the largest ultra-rapid charging hub in Europe.
“We have worked closely together to design a scheme that compliments both Trafford Centre and the local area, is forward thinking, secures biodiversity improvements and supports more sustainable forms of travel to and from the centre," he added.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service writes that if approved construction work is targeted to begin in early 2025.
