Police have issued an appeal to help identify a man whose body was found on the Hampshire coast on Boxing Day.

Officers were called Eastney East Battery on Southsea Esplanade near Portsmouth at 18:30 GMT on Thursday.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said his death is not being treated as suspicious and inquiries are underway to identify the man.

The force described him as white, of an unknown age, with a gold tooth.

They said he was wearing blue Levi jeans, a pink woollen scarf, a blue zip Regatta fleece with a Balfour Beatty South East Territory logo, a white and blue striped shirt with a British Rail double arrow logo on the pocket and black Adidas trainers.

He was also in possession of an inhaler and an "older style" video camera, they added.

Anyone with information should contact the police by calling 101.
