Police are hunting a suspect after a man was seriously injured in a stabbing in a town centre.

Officers were called to Temple Street in Swindon at about 13:45 GMT on Friday after a man sustained a serious injury to his face. A cordon was put in place at the scene for several hours, but has now been lifted.

The victim, aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for anybody who witnessed the incident to contact them.

Det Sgt Sarah Munday said: "We appreciate the concern that this incident has caused within the community, however please be reassured that the suspect and the victim are believed to be known to one another and this is thought to be an isolated incident.

"We are actively working to locate and arrest the suspect."
