Disruption after Dundee train fire shuts rail line

About 70 passengers and crew have been evacuated from a train near the Tay Bridge in Dundee following a fire in a power car.

The railway line between Dundee and Leuchars was closed for several hours as a result of the incident.

Trains between Edinburgh and Aberdeen/Dundee were suspended, with Glasgow and Dundee services starting and terminating at Perth.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said no casualties had been reported.

The incident happened on the 09:30 Edinburgh Waverley to Aberdeen service, shortly before 10:45.

ScotRail said that a small fire on the train had been quickly extinguished.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 10:44 on Friday to reports of a fire affecting a train carriage on Dundee Railway Bridge.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the area to extinguish the fire and crews are assisting emergency service partners at the scene to fully evacuate the train.

"There are no reported casualties at this time."
