New district council leader announced
A new leader has been announced for Bolsover District Council.
Labour councillor Jane Yates was elected into the position by other councillors at a full council meeting on Wednesday, after former leader Steve Fritchley announced his retirement on 15 January.
Ms Yates, who represents Shirebrook South, will be joined by Bolsover North and Shuttlewood councillor Donna Hales as deputy leader.
After becoming leader, Ms Yates said: "I would like to thank members for putting their trust in me."
Ms Yates named three members of her cabinet including councillor John Ritchie for growth, councillor Mary Dooley for health and wellbeing and councillor Clive Moesby for resources.
The new leader, who was first elected into the council in 2023, said she was still undertaking interviews for the remaining positions, which would be announced in March.
She said: "I am incredibly proud and honoured to have been given this opportunity as leader of Bolsover District Council and working with my colleagues and the officers we will strive to deliver top class services and deliver on our growth agenda for the benefit of our residents."
