Fatal traffic collision a mystery, says coroner
The circumstances surrounding the death of a man following a collision have been described as a "mystery" by a coroner.
Devon Alfie Wyatt, 20, from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, died on 26 June 2024 after a road traffic collision in Emneth near King's Lynn, Norfolk, two days earlier.
The court heard that Mr Wyatt’s Ford Fiesta swerved into the opposing lane on the A1101, colliding with a yellow Ford Ranger.
Area Coroner Samantha Goward said: "Sadly, it remains a complete mystery as to why Devon swerved."
Other drivers at the scene called 999 and performed CPR on Mr Wyatt after the crash at approximately 08:20 BST.
The driver of the Ford Ranger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, the court was told.
Mr Wyatt was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn, and was later airlifted to Addenbrooke's.
'Lost his soulmate'
Graham Wyatt, Mr Wyatt's father, told the court that his son was completing a course on cyber security and had a job interview lined up.
"His life was just starting out," he said.
Mr Wyatt told the court about Devon's close relationship with his twin brother, Cody.
"[Cody] has lost his soulmate, not just his brother," he said.
"Life just doesn't feel right."
In her findings, Ms Goward said that statements from witnesses did not show any abnormalities in Mr Wyatt's driving.
"There was no evidence that Devon was driving in a reckless way," she said.
Evidence provided by the Ford Fiesta's telematics show that Mr Wyatt had been driving within the speed limit.
He had no medical conditions that would have impacted his driving and there is no evidence of anything that would have distracted Mr Wyatt, the court heard.
Ms Goward ruled that Mr Wyatt's death was caused by a traumatic head injury as a result of a road-traffic collision.
