Hundreds of new caravans planned for holiday park

A holiday park on the south coast is hoping to add hundreds of caravans to its site as part of a £20m investment.

The proposals include 239 "high quality" static caravans to be installed at Haven's Weymouth Bay Holiday Park in Dorset.

The colours of the new caravans would blend in with the landscape, rather than being beige and white, according to leaflets the company has distributed in the area.

A formal planning application has not yet been submitted to Dorset Council.

The changes would bring about 70 extra jobs to the area, Haven said.

Plans also involve planting five hectares of wildflower meadow, 4,000 trees and improving the setting of the nearby Grade II-listed St Andrew's church, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

In a statement, Haven said the proposed development had been "landscape-led" with a focus on mitigating visual impacts.

A public consultation event is planned at the park site on 9 January.
