Stallholders at Leicester's Christmas market have said they are considering returning next year after a successful six weeks of trading.

The market, located in Gallowtree Gate, has been open since 14 November with stalls selling knitwear, crafts and festive food.

Ahead of its final day on Sunday, traders said they were pleased with visitor numbers.

"There has been plenty of trade, it's good for the people of Leicester and the infrastructure has been good," said George Rogers, who runs the Cheshire Cheese stall.

He added: "We'd like to be part of it in the future. To put something into Leicester and to help out the people, it's been a great experience."

"There has been so many people arriving from different cities, and it's nice to get some positive feedback," said Margot Chawner, who has been selling Christmas decorations from her stall.

"We have had loads of different stock in, and every item keeps selling. It's nice to know that people are enjoying the experience."

Simon Jenner, director at Leicester's business improvement district (BID), said he was pleased to see people using the market, along with other festive attractions in the city, including the ice rink and big wheel.

"Those kind of attractions bring people in and it's fantastic that it's an attraction that people have wanted to come into Leicester and see," he said.

"Leicester is such a great place to be and there is a brilliant atmosphere. There is a lot to see and a lot to do."
